Resonating Bodies at Battery Park City

Artist: Tony Cragg

Collection: The Battery Conservancy; Battery Park City Authority

Date: Installed, 1996

Resonating Bodies consists of a pair of bronze sculptures resembling giant musical instruments, one resembling a lute and the other a tuba. The sculpture is based on the idea that all physical bodies--including ourselves--are constantly enveloped by various energy forms from heat, light, sound, and gravity to magnetic waves and x-waves. It reflects these forces with a wave-like relief on its surfaces, and invites touching and interaction.
